The Lotus Connection
In October 1994, a concert by Andrew Lazaro took place on the front porch of the Mathers Museum. Lazaro, a School of Music doctoral student from Puerto Rico, performed folk music for an audience gathered on the museum's front lawn. That performance was the very first event of the Lotus Festival--Bloomington's yearly celebration of world music and arts.
Over 20 years later, the Mathers Museum is still an active partner in the events and programs that are part of the festival. From presenting hands-on activities at Lotus in the Park, to serving as a venue for Lotus Blossoms workshops and events, the MMWC continues its commitment and support of this important community festival.
